About ZYVERT®
ZYVERT® technology is here. Tobacco industry leaders partnered with academia to develop a special breed of tobacco that radically reduces levels of the harmful constituents, N’-nitrosonornicotine (NNN), in tobacco products.
The crop will have the same yield, the same disease resistance, and the same physical and chemical properties as a non-ZYVERT® crop. The only difference is the levels of NNN present in the crop, which forms 50-75% less NNN in comparison to levels in low converter plants. By reducing the levels of NNN, we reduce harmful tobacco constituents.
More than a decade ago, industry and academic research institutions began working together to determine ways to reduce NNN. Through a collaboration between Altria, Philip Morris International, North Carolina State University and University of Kentucky, scientists studied how NNN is formed in tobacco. Today, they are ready to share their research and their results: Stable Reduced Converter (SRC) seeds with ZYVERT® technology.
